Intelius Opt-Out
What Does Intelius Do?
Intelius is a public-access information provider that compiles and displays data associated with individuals. By entering basic details such as a name or general location, users can view reports that may include phone numbers, address history, possible relatives, and other publicly sourced records. The platform markets these reports as research tools for locating or learning more about other people.
The information shown by Intelius is gathered from a mix of public databases and user interactions with the site. Because the data is aggregated from multiple sources, results can be broad, outdated, or inaccurately linked to the wrong person. For individuals who want to limit exposure or remove their information from public search results, submitting an opt-out request is the most effective next step.
Information Needed to Opt-Out of Intelius
Opting out of Intelius's data sharing is free and does not require account creation. While Intelius is not a consumer credit reporting agency, the ability to request removal or suppression of personal information is supported by federal privacy protections, including principles outlined in the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
There are no special eligibility requirements to submit an opt-out request. However, the online opt-out procedures are completed more quickly when you have immediate access to an email address, as email verification is often required to confirm and finalize the request.
Intelius Opt-Out Preliminaries
Intelius has a significant impact on those within its database. The Intelius privacy policy has a 14-point list of "inclusions" regarding how they use the data they collect (section 2.2); some of these uses naturally include research, development, and verification purposes.
The information gathered by Intelius is also shared or sold to affiliates, providers, and third parties. The user may have had their information exposed to other corporations or business entities. The user must contact the individual businesses to exercise their opt-out rights.
The following section offers a detailed guide to opting out of Intelius. Five procedures are available to the consumer; each is a single path toward opting out. It is unnecessary to complete all paths, as they are equally effective once confirmed.
The Step-by-Step Guide to Opting Out of Intelius
Call Intelius' Consumer Support
For some users, calling customer support is the fastest way to request removal from Intelius. Live representatives are available Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm PST. Calls placed outside these hours or on holidays are routed to voicemail with instructions to call back during business hours. You can reach the Intelius support team at 1-(888)-245-1655.
Because there is no automated menu, the wording of your request matters. Using the wrong terms can lead to a different outcome than intended. For example, saying "unsubscribe me" typically removes you from email communications only. To request data removal, clearly state: "I want to remove my name from Intelius' data sharing". Precise language helps the representative process the correct action and reduces the chance of being redirected toward limited preferences or marketing options. If you prefer to avoid a live call altogether, one of the alternative opt-out methods may be a better fit.
Send an Email to the Intelius Privacy Team
Consumers may also choose to submit an opt-out request by emailing the privacy team at Intelius directly. This option is referenced in Intelius' privacy policy, specifically within Section 3, where they acknowledge email-based privacy requests. However, the policy does not clearly outline what information is required for a suppression request to be accepted, which can make this method feel a bit uncertain.
By reviewing the relevant policy language and on-page guidance, it's possible to structure an email that is more likely to be approved. The goal is to provide enough detail to clearly identify the record without introducing unnecessary or new personal information. Use the template below by copying it into your email client, then replace the highlighted sections with accurate details before sending.
Mail Your Suppression Request to Intelius
For users who prefer a more formal or secure approach, submitting an opt-out request by physical mail is always an option. Consumers may either draft a new letter or reuse the email template provided above. If using the template, copy it into a text or word-processing application and replace the highlighted sections with accurate personal information.
Before mailing, place the address and the current date in the top-left corner of the letter. Leave extra space between the closing and your printed name to include a handwritten signature, as unsigned requests may be delayed. Once prepared, mail your request to the following address:
Intelius
Attn: Privacy
501 W. Broadway St., Suite 800
San Diego, CA 92101
Request Suppression with an In-Browser Quick Form
The fastest way to limit how your information is shared is by using Intelius's in-browser quick form. This option prevents Intelius from sharing consumer data with affiliates, but it does not remove public-facing records from search results. To access the form, visit the Intelius Privacy Center and scroll down to the appropriate section.
Step One:
Locate the section titled "Right to Opt Out". You'll see a drop-down menu, an email field, and a "Save Preference" button. Select "DO NOT Share user data" from the drop-down, enter an accessible email address, and click "Save Preference".
Depending on whether your email is already associated with their database, you may receive an automated response. If the email is not recognized, the system may indicate there is nothing to suppress, but the request is still considered completed.
Access the PeopleConnect Suppression Center
To remove your public information from Intelius search results, you must use the PeopleConnect Suppression Center. Opting out through this system also applies to other affiliated sites that rely on PeopleConnect's platform. To begin, open the Suppression Center in a new tab and click the "Manage Suppression Rules" button.
Step One:
The first page of the Suppression Center will load. Enter an accessible email address, check the Terms and Conditions box, and click "Continue". The page will refresh and prompt you to verify your email
Step Two:
Open the email sent from peopleconnect.us and click the large "Verify Email" button in the center. A new browser tab will open.
Step Three:
You'll be taken to the "Date of Birth" page. Enter your date of birth using the calendar icon, check the verification box, and click "Continue". Note that this information cannot be changed once submitted.
Step Four:
Next is the "Legal Name" page. Enter at least your first and last name. If you have aliases or alternate names, use the "Add another name" option. Check the legal name confirmation box and click "Continue".
Step Five:
The system will run an internal search and display possible matching records. Some details may be incorrect, which does not affect the opt-out process. Select the correct record by clicking the white circle next to it, scroll down, and click "Continue".
Step Six:
If your email is recognized, you'll receive a "Verified" status. If not, you may be asked to complete a secondary verification step, such as entering a one-time code sent to a known phone number. Click "Continue" when prompted.
Step Seven:
The wizard will load the "Control" page. The current status will read "Displayed". Use the drop-down menu to change the status to "Suppressed", then click "Save".
Step Eight:
Refresh the page to confirm the change. If successful, the status will continue to display "Suppressed", and the identity configuration will reflect the update in bold text.
Double-check that the Records Were Removed
After submitting a suppression request, it's important to verify that the changes were successfully applied before moving on. Consumers who use the official suppression wizard typically see results almost immediately. Run a fresh search to confirm that the record no longer appears in public results.
Even after a successful opt-out, new records can be generated as databases update. To maintain long-term privacy, check your information at least once per year and submit additional requests if needed. This guidance reflects the most current opt-out procedures outlined in Intelius's privacy policy (2025).
